Animations in PowerPoint

By Richard in news, techniques on December 22, 2010

Many of my 3D animations are deployed in PowerPoint by my clients. They are usually used in marketing presentations but also used for training and education. In fact, many times the same animation is used for both purposes within a company, but that is another blog post.

Recently I had a unique challenge placing animations within PowerPoint. Namely, I had to place 2 animations that were to run concurrently. That is, when the new slide came up both animations had to start running at exactly the same time. Well, PowerPoint can’t do this. It can only run one animation at a time and one will run, stop, and then the other will stop. Now, Keynote will run multiple animations simultaneously, but that was not an option in this case because my client uses PC’s exclusively.

I found a clever workaround to this issue on a blog at www.thepowerpointstudio.com. What can be done is that you set up the slide so that the first animation runs automatically and then the user clicks on the 2nd animation. I tested this workaround and found that if I clicked promptly the second animation would start and they would run nearly simultaneously. At any rate, close enough to solve the problem on the project I was working on.
